Just wondering if anyone has had issues with restoring TIB files through the Converter using the newer version of Acronis Backup and Recovery. We are using Converter Standalone Version 4.01 Build 161434

We are abe to restore TIB images using Acronis True Image V9.5 but unable to restore using Acronis Backup and Recovery for server (V10). We get an error indicating the "image is not recognised"

Our method is we take a server image of the VM to create a tib file, then use the converter to convert the tib image to create new VM.

One thing I have noticed, is that the version of Acronis we're using is not supported in the release notes. "Could be the reason"

Questions would be:
1) Does anyone use the newer version of Acronis and had similar issues. What was your fix?
2) Can anyone at VMware provide a date when the newer version of Acronis will be supported in the standalone converter.

Regards

Chris

CCGConsulting,

There is no fix. Acronis customizes each version of the backup and restore code, which means we have to implement changes each time they update their software. I think this is already processed as a feature request.

2) Can anyone at VMware provide a date when the newer version of Acronis will be supported in the standalone converter.
We cannot comment on anything in the 'future', as we support what is currently available.

We have run experiments on AR10 build 11133. If you use the VMWARE Vsphere Standalone conversion tool the AR10 TIB files fail. We tried TIB files built on the Echo platform and they convert fine. Something has changed in the TIB structures with the AR10 product and are not supported in the Vmware conversion tool.

Seems crazy as VMWARE shows Acronis in the list of support options. However, it refers to Echo. I would think Acronis would be HIGHLY motivated to fix this as they essentially get free advertising from anyone who uses the vmware conversion tool.

What is really cool about the Vsphere tool is that you can actually convert the TIB file directly to your ESXI server and start it.

I hope that the next release of AR10 will fix the problem.

Hurry up and wait....

restore the Acronis image like you would do it with real metal - no need to wait until this version is understood by Converter.
Once you have it restored - run "configure machine" option of Converter to patch the drivers

I don't know why you call the tested and reliable Acronis procedure a workaround ???
