How do you know what update version is installed on an ESX host. As all I can see is 3.5.0,153875.

Also why is it update 1,2 3 etc are not viewable via the update manager...I'm I missing something?

the quick and dirty solution is to google the build number. 153875 is update 4

And you can verify it on the patch download page on vmware.com:

http://support.vmware.com/selfsupport/download/

And link to 3.5 update 4, specifically:

http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=1007971

The build number is a first way to know the "U" version.

To know the applied patch you can use:
esxupdate -l info
