Hi, I am attempting to migrating physical nics to a dvSwitch.

When I attempt to remove a nic from vSwitch0, it throws the error

"A specified parameter was not correct. Vim.Host.VirtualSwitch.LinkDiscoveryProtocolConfig"

How do I check it and resolve?

https://www.vmware.com/support/developer/vc-sdk/visdk400pubs/ReferenceGuide/vim.host.LinkDiscoveryProtocolConfig.html just describes that parameter as new in 4.0

I am on ESX4.0 build 175625

thanks

VCP

I will await your posted resolution :)

I tried adding another Nic into the network adapters on this vswitch and it added OK. After that I was able to remove the one of the physical nics that was throwing the error previously.

i.e had 2 nics neither of which I could remove due to the error. Added another one physical nic. Then I could remove the others with no error.

Hi,

I'm also getting this error, have you had a resolution on this yet?

Thanks

This error is from a missing line in /etc/vmware/esx.conf:

/net/vswitch/child0000/cdp/status = "both"

typing "esxcfg-vswitch -B both vSwitch0" on the console will add the missing line and allow you to make changes without rebooting the esx server. Make sure you replace "vSwitch0" with the name of your vswitch.

Make sure you refresh your network settings before you attempt to modify the switch by clicking on "refresh" in the upper right corner.

Just confirming that esearle's fix works for me on 4.0.0.

This worked for me, but in the properties of the vSwitch, under NIC Teaming, i had to move the physical nic down to UNUSED. After that I went back into the vSwitch properties and was able to remove the NIC from the network adapters tab.

Thanks esearle

esearle's fix worked for me too.

Where did this fix come from, a VMware Tech Support Rep, or your own discovery?

Either way, Thanks!

I was in a crunch when upgrading from 3.5 to 4. so I looked at the event log and discovered that it was complaining of the missing configureation line. It only took a search to discover the command to make changes to that setting. In this case the utility creates the setting if it is missing.
