Hi all,

I am using a HP Proliant DL380 G5 as my host ESX machine (3.5) on which i had a VM with guest as Windows 2003 R2 standard 32 bit edition, i started facing issues just when i configure the Lan setting and had given internet access, and i am sharing a folder with some files on it, whenever the ser ver is idle for some 30 to 40 minutes and if i try to access the shared folder i cannot and igf checked in the console on Vsphere client the gui frezzes and restore only when i reset the VM, I have allocated 2 gb RAM and 1 vCPU to this, Can any one guess what might be the issue, Earlier i was running ESX 4.0 on same Host with same OS with no issues.

Does the vm have vmware tools installed on it? If not obviously install it but to me it sounds like a corrupted file so maybe try uninstall and reinstall the vmware tools and see what happens. Also is there anything in the logs of the vm stating any problems??? I'm sure they would be a great source for troubleshooting the issue.

Hi Sums611,

Did you move the VM off the ESX 4.0 install and then add it back to the 3.5 install. The vm tools I would think are different between the two host operating systems.
Have you tried installing a fresh 2003 R2 SP2 on the 3.5 install and do you get the same issue.

The tools are a bit different but they are backward compatible and it does work as i have migrated machines between esx 3.5 and 4 and back again without any errors. I still think your vmware tools are just corrupted.

Tell us where you get
