Hello:

I did not set it up this way, but I have become owner of a glorified "workstation PC" running a Server OS, running VMware server. 1.0.8 . It has a WIndows 2003 Server VM runing in a VMware VM, when it was setup 250 GB was allocated for the Vmware disk drive windows is running on, the problem is I need to resize the VMware file, as the OS is only taking up 38 GB, and will never need more. I would like to use this Image as a test bed to create new vm's to test out some migration paths, but I can't copy it as I currently do not have enough space in the host to house another 250 GB of space. is there anyway I can shrink the size of the VMware file, so that I do not have to worrk about 250 gb of overhead that will be a total waste of space?

I tried booting up under the G-parted Linix Iso, and resize the windows volume, that worked fine, but the VMware side still shows 250 GB

thanks in advance

whats wrong with your keyboard ? - it seems to use bold letters all the time ? - maybe replace that with a working one ;-)

What about changing the preallocated disk to a growing one ? - that way you do not need to change anything in the VM itself - you just need to run vmware-vdiskmanager from a commandline and convert the large existing disk to a may 35 Gb file that then grows as needed

Run vmware-vdiskmanager without parameter to get info on the syntax
