Fusion 2.04 (WinXP) and iTunes 8.2.0.23, can't connect iPhone anymore posted: Jun 8, 2009 6:30 AM

I recently upgraded to the latest version of iTunes and it seems like I can't get the iPhone to connect to the VM anymore. When I use the pulldown menu to say Connect to iPhone it connects to the Mac OSX machine but never the VM. This was working fine previously and I cannot tell you if it started failing as soon as I upgraded to iTunes 8.2.0.23 or shortly afterwards.

Any ideas or guidance would be appreciated.

having same problem, and it appears to be related to the new Itunes update.

I rebooted my iphone. rebooted Vmware. played around with vmware settings all to no avail.

Any solutions yet?

Any resolution to this...I am having the same issue. My USB logs also look similar to the logs posted. The error is

USBDeviceOpenSeize failed (e00002c5)

From reading other posts...it appears that something on the Host OS is grabbing and holding the device..but I do not know what that could be...no applications open on the OSX side when the iPhone is connected....

Any help would be appreciated...

Same experience here. WMWare needs to fix it - soon please. Until then Iuse version 8.1.1., it works without problems for me (sync'ing my iPhone with Outlook etc.)

Apparently iTunes 8.2.0 is problematic even without Fusion in the picture, there are reports of phones not connecting. You might try downloading the itunes dmg manually and reinstalling, this has apparently fixed things for some people.

Agree with you. It makes no difference - it does not work with VMware fusion - yet (I hope). The new iTunes version works fine on my PC so the answer form etang is the typical and automatic there-is-nothing-wrong-with-Fusion response. That kind of answer gets to us users quick - but is useless. The real answers to the problems seems to take a looooong time - if they come.

My post did NOT suggest that the Beta 1 would fix this problem. All I mentioned was that this is a difference between what I am running and what others are running. It would be great if you had the time and wanted to upgrade to the Beta but I cannot confirm that this will or will not fix your problem. I will post a link to the Beta shortly.

I am able to reproduce this problem using a 1st Gen iPhone and 2.0.4
(159196). I have logged a VMware internal defect for tracking. The
internal defect number is 419145.

I just upgraded to the new Iphone 3.0 last week and a few days before that the new Itunes on both the Mac and PC side. Even though all Mac applications that try to connect to the IPhone are not running I still can't connect to my VM with XP. I click on Connect Iphone, The iphone makes the normal Beep but when I go back and look it hasn't connected to the VM and the "Connect Apple Iphone" is there again ready to be clicked on.

It doesn't even go far enough to give Itunes on the VM time to grab it.

I'm using

VWWare 2.0.4

ITunes 8.2.0.23 on Win XP SP3 and Mac 10.5.7

Iphone with 3.0

I used the problem started when I upgraded to the Iphone 3.0 Sw but it could have started when I upgraded to Itunes 8.2 a few days early. It had been working with Iphone 2.0 and the previous version of Itunes.

had the same issue VMWare Fusion 2.0.4 Win XP SP3, iphone 3Gs with OS3.0

I issued the following command in MacOS and this solved my problem:

sudo /bin/launchctl unload //System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.usbmuxd.plist

iphone is now showing up in itunes 8.2 !
