One of the reasons I left this community last year was the brokenness of the system. I was recently invited to a new desktop products beta program and I can't seem to enable Receiving email notifications on the whole forum, yes I want this traffic. Every time I reload the forum discussion the option is toggled back to not receive email. So I thought I would try the RSS feeds but I'm asked to authenticate by my RSS reader (Netnewswire for OS X) and my community login is not accepted, so I'm stuck. Yes, I'm typing my login correctly.

I want to re-establish faith in these forums but I need a little help here. If need to use Google Reader or some other platform-independent reader, just point me that way too.

I'm not using RSS, but I am able to receive email notifications in that community (I assume we're talking about the one where non-employees got access around Jun 2 and that I invited you to, community id 3090).

Just to clarify, I can get notifications for threads I create or reply to. I can't seem to enable them for newly created discussions (email for the forum itself).

Yep, clear on that - I subscribe to the entire community, as I find that Mail.app is much better at searching.

The following flashs, the state changes:
You will now receive email notifications when new content is posted in this community. To stop this, click "Stop Email Notifications".

But, if I revisit the forums or just click re-load, the state allows me to "Receive email notifications" again. And I'm not receiving new thread notifications. Must be a feature reserved for VMware employees :)

What OS/browser? If you look in your profile, does the watch ever get set?

Hi Richard,

Let me give an update on these issues:

Notifications: There is currently an issue around setting notifications. We've identified the cause and are working on a fix, which I expect to implement in the next week. In the meantime, I'm not aware of a workaround.

RSS for private communities: This is not supported because of issues with authentication. I would like get this working, but there is no ETA for it. RSS works correctly for all public communities.

Performance and stability: Both have improved substantially since you stepped away from VMware Communities. Traffic continues to be high and a lot of conversations are happening. I encourage you to re-engage.

Started with Safari 3 on OS X. Have tried IE 8 and Firefox 3.5 on Windows, all with same results. My profile only indicates thread email notifications, no forums. My community preferences all have "Yes" in the choices for fine-grained email control.

VMware Communities participants can now set watches on communities, threads, documents, and other watchable items without error.

The problem had the same cause as another issue that we just fixed.

The setting is sticking now but I'm waiting for my first new thread email :)
