Trouble with vSphere in Mac Fusion Windows Guest ... CTRL + ALT posted: Jun 6, 2009 11:03 AM

I have a functioning ESXi 4.0 installation on which I have 5 running guests. I don't have any Windows systems to run vsphere on so I am using a virtualized Windows XP system running on my Mac under VMware Fusion.

So, I installed vSphere client from my ESXi 4.0 installation without any problems. I logged in and can create new guests, monitor performance, etc. No problems.

Next, I open up a console to one of my FreeBSD guests and no problem I am connected to the text console.

Now the problem. I want to exit the FreeBSD guest console by typing CTRL + ALT. I type CTRL + ALT and instead of those key-presses being seen by vSphere Console window; they instead are intercepted by VMware Fusion on the Mac.

Ugg ... I had to restart the Windows guest to get out of it.

Is there some magic incantation I can use to escape from a console window that is running inside a guest windows operating system?

Thanks in advance!

You are doing the right thing to get out of the window, but I don't know anything about Fusion. If you install the VMware Guest Tools it should allow for auto unlock of the mouse so that you can move between windows without hitting <ctrl> + <alt>
