Hi!

Is there any way to "capture" print output coming from the guest system and redirect it to a file on the host system for later use?

I'm running fully patched Windows XP SP3 on Fusion 2.0.4 with OSX 10.5.6. Printng from the Windows guest works fine out of the box, didn't even have to create the printers. Just print from the Windows app and a short time later the output pops out the default network printer as specified on MacOS. However, I would like to store the output as a file, rather than on paper, much like the Print to PDF option we have on the MacOS print dialog.

Since I'm using the default ThinPrint client/driver as set by Fusion, Windows thinks it is printing to a Postscript device so the print stream will be in that format. Fine, if that can be stored to a file instead of sent to the printer, as MacOS' Preview can convert a PS file to PDF.

How can I achieve this?

Thanks for any input.

You can use CUPS-PDF from codepoetry to create a Printer Device in OS X and then access it as a Printer in the Host and or Guest. The price is right, it's free, however the direction are not exactly correct, where it states "“Virtual Printer” should be in the list, select it." it actually shows up as "CUPS-PDF" however it does work.

By default it prints directly to a PDF file in a folder on your Desktop named cups-pdf however you can edit the /etc/cups/cups-pdf.conf file and set the location for the output to a different folder. I set mine to the CUPS-PDF folder in my Documents folder.
