What kind of network adapter is that? Is it mobile or 80211?

Did you specifically bridge host-guest or did you attach the usb adapter directly in guest?

Have you tried disabling firewall?

have not downloaded w7 rc yet.

just check the ics settings host pc - your network card ip address = 192.168.0.1

the vm is to be bridged to the network card ( vmnet 0 )

the guest vm network settings tcp/ip set ip to auto and dns server to auto.

for w7 set the fire wall to private and lower the settings. if needed.

please reward points - we need to know if we have helped.

Using Avira as well: the answer was in Avira's KnowledgeBase:

Open Avira configuration, expert mode.
Add the rule Allow VMWARE connections
Apply

Solved simple connectivity.

VPN connectivity from within VMware needed extra config on the firewall.
