How to boot an image directly, bypassing the host machines OS

I want to boot directly into my VM images without first booting my Win XP host machine - how is this possible?

Hi,

Welcome to the VMware communities forum!

This is not possible as VMware player is an application that has to run on a host machine OS.

So technically you will always have to boot into the host OS first.

The only bit that comes close to what you are asking for is to install dual boot operating systems and then use one of those operating systems to run virtualized in vmware player. Here's a link about that last one:

you may want to take a look at this document

http://www.vmware.com/resources/techresources/266

it is refered to the old VMware ACE product, but you can adapt it to use it with VMware Player as your default shell, that way you "boot " into VMware player, using your host but without access to it

hope this guide you in the right direction
