Hi folk,
We are just buildinga new virtual infrastructure made up of 3 enterprise hosts and a physical server running vcenter.
Are there any problems associated with running vcenter on a domain controller? I will also have virtual domain controllers within our solution so this will not be the only one. We have previously managed to get SQL 2005 running on a DC without any problems.
Any thoughts?
I do not think is good for VirtualCenter to be in the same server that has the role of AD
If you do not have a physical server for it, why do not you try to install it in a VM

I agree, I wouldn't install vCenter on an AD Domain Controller. The simple question is "what happens if you need to reboot?"
If it's an issue with not enough hardware you may consider running vCenter as a VM
vCenter server with domain controller is definitely not a good practice especially if you have virtualization infrastructure running, it would be a good practice if you want to virtualize vCenter server and it is very flexible and easy to manage. Make sure you have your database backup and it can be reinstall/restore anytime no problems. Remember, vCenter server with domain controller will prevent you from using other products such as SRM, Lab Manager, View 3.0 etc...since these products generally will not coincide with domain controllers but requires vCenter server to work side by side.
