Windows 2000 BSOD – After P2V 1st Boot (solution)

Thought I would post some of my notes up for others.

PROBLEM:

If you migrate a Windows 2000 server and it finishes fine, but during boot up you get a BSOD;

STOP: 0x0000001E (0xC0000005, 0x8045D9BF, 0x0000000, 0x001A0018)

KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED

    • Address 8045D9BF base at 80400000, Datestamp 45069e6e - ntoskrnl.exe

SOLUTION:

  • You need to power off the VM, add a CD-ROM and a Floppy virtual device (assuming it's not already there)

  • Download this:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=B54730CF-8850-4531-B52B-BF28B324C662&displa...

  • Extract it, and pull the scsiport.sys file out (should be version 5.0.2195.7059) and make it into a virtual floppy file, mount it to the virtual floppy along with a Windows 2000 iso.

  • Boot the VM into recovery mode from the Windows 2000 ISO

  • Copy the file off the floppy (scsiport.sys) to the %systemroot%\system32\drivers folder

  • Reboot

Easier solution!!!!

Hit esc when machine is booting to get boot menu.

Connect to CD/DVD to BartPE

Click on Fix VM SCSI

Map to Windows Directory

If this is 2000 server install BUS adapter, if 2003 LS Logic, if NT then install the NT one.

Reboot

NOTE if you need to you can change the settings on startup by editing the VM settings/options for boot time this is in milliseconds so set it HIGH.
