Hi, I install and try the Esxi on a server witch SCSI disk.

The system io on and all work. Now I try to import a Virtual Machine (I create and use this witch VmWare server 2) to Exsi 3.5

I download the VmWare Vcenter converter standalone. At the first time I have problem witch sysprep but I read the forum and find some answer. Now I try to export (2003 sbs) from Vmware server2 to ESXi, I copy the folder to the computer with Vcenter converter and do the convert machine, I select all anche the Esxi server without error, the procedure start and work for 1/2 minute and in the "events" of Exsi I see a messagge "Creating SRV_2K3_SBS"...few second and I see another message "Failed to create virtual disk /vmfs/volumes/3ac77d55-76551e44-28c4-000c6e502fc4/srv_2k3_SBS/srv_2k3_sbs.vmdk" and I don't know why.....

Take a look at the logs on ESXi (in the VI client to go Administration \ System logs to see /var/log/vmware/hostd.log and the DCUI to see the vmkernel log (/var/log/messages). How large is the VMDK for the server you're trying to import? If it is larger than 256 GB then you'll need to reformat your ESXi datastore with a larger block size (2 / 4 or 8 MB instead of the default 1 MB).

Tomorrow I see the log.


My vmware are 3-4gb total...I format my datastore with default setting...but with the esxi is possible to import another vmware with the converter? I use a free license.


How I format my datastore to try?

I have 4 disk with SCSI controller, 2 disk are in mirror and in total I have 72gb.In this mirror disk I install the vmware OS and the datastore1, the other 2 disk (72gb for a disk) are the datastore2 and datastore3 but all3 disk are formatter with standard setting.

Converter will work with the free version of ESXi.

Hi, try exporting it to .ovf or .ova format in vCentre, then in ESXi import it as a virtual applicance.

Hi! I format a new datastorage with 2mb block size and now I can export....the procedure start and now work....I don't know how many time require, but at the finish I try virtual and send an answer!

My virtual have 2,18gb space on disk and have tne vmdk file of 2,18gb....why I must format with 2mb block size?

I import correctly a system 2003 sbs (2,2gb on HDD) in 1 hour

Now I import a Xp Pro with some programs (11gb on HDD) and now the process is 32%...and work from 4hours ( I have 7 Hours estimated time to complete).

I start the process 3 times, the first and the second give me an error at 7% : "FAILED: agent.internal.fault.NfcConnectionFault.summary" and "Error: Failed to clone disk 0 on the virtual machine 'VMXP999'" in the log of the process. Now the conversion work but I don't know why....In the same time of the first two try I move the first virtual machine on another datastorage....on the 3 try the esxi server only do this process.

It possible that the MOVE process of a virtual machine disturb or crash the convert process of another virtual machine?

Actualy the import not finish...stop at 95%....sigh

Now I reformat a datastorage with 4mb block and start new import

I try to tranfer the 1° virtual machine (2,2gb) to a datastorage with 1mb block (I can't import with 1mb...I must use a datastorage with2mb block) and the move operation done sucefully, I start the Vm and all Work. Is only a problem to import.

Now I attend the finish of the 2° virtual....11gb work for 7-8Hours.

So....I have problem with the import of the second Vm. Is a Xp sp3 with some programs (11gb total disk space).

I attach a screenshot with the error.

Now I restart a process on a datastorage with 4mb block size...but I don't know that it work because the virtual disk have 20gb total of space. The conversion process use 8-10 hours and now I have the same error at 94%...sigh...

Have other ideas?

Hi, now I try to export the 2° virtual machine like a virtual appliance (.ova file) and push on server Esxi....all work fine at the first time and in 1 hours!!!

That's good to hear. It can sometimes be a lot faster to do the conversion to local machine in vCenter, then export it over the network to ESXi, rather than doing the whole conversion over the network. Also any problems come up quicker, rather than waiting hours to find out if a conversion has failed.
