Hey guys,

Need some help as I can't seem to find anything concrete out about this problem. Probably because it is so simple to fix. Anyway, I have 8 vms out of about 27 vms that the "migrate storage" in the drop down box is greyed out. There seems to be no commonality between the 8 where "migrate storage" is greyed out, and nothing I can see different from the other 19 where "migrate storage" is not greyed out. If I clik on the cluster or on each of the hosts in that cluster, "migrate storage" is not greyed out. Anyone have an idea as to what might be going on here?

Hard to say without looking at the VMs, but if I had to guess I'd say the VMtools installer was running in some form still. Is there an option to "End VMware Tools Installation"?

Yep - do the Vm's in question have "RDM" or Independent Disks?

In this case svmotion will notwork.

Hey dominic7,

How would I tell if the VMware Tools installer was running in some form? It is up-to-date on some of the 8 vm's with greyed "migrate storage". The one vm that I wanted to move disk on, it was out-of-date, so I updated it, but "migrate storage" was stilled greyed out. I then shutdown the vm and did a "migrate", not changing the vm/host location but only the location of the vm files. After the cold migration "migrate storage" was no longer greyed out.

Still have seven vm's with greyed out "migrate storage".

Hey runclear,

This is not the case with any of my 8 vm's with the greyed out "migrate storage". I do have an Exchange 2007 vm that does have an RDM and it's "migrate storage" is not greyed out. I had read earlier today about vm's with RDM's would have greyed out "migrate storage". None of the prerequisites for having the greyed out "ms" applies to any of my vm's unforunately. If they had I would have known what to do. Read my reply to dominic7 on what I did to fix the one vm I was very interested in moving today.
