Hi All!

I was trying to install the VMware-workstation-6.5.1-126130.exe product, but I run the file and nothing happens. If I try twice or more, I receive the message below:

"Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."

I did everything that I could... I verified the regedit, I runned as Administrator, I saw the Event Viewer, but nothing. I start thinking in remove my Windows XP and install GNU/Linux.

I have a HP Pavilion DV6812, Windows XP PRO SP3, AMD Turion 64 X2 2 GHz processor, 3 GB RAM memory, and 320 GB of HD.

The log file "vminst.log_20090403_233312_Failed.log" has the content:

Application installation issues, in my experience, have usually been caused by problems with the Windows Installer in the OS.

Try downloading the latest release of the Windows Installer from Microsoft's website (version 4.5 is the one I've usually downloaded), and then try to install VMware Workstation 6.5.1 again.

You might want to go back and check the latest User's Guide for Workstation (6.5.2) - page 25:

"Table 1-1. Supported Windows Host Operating Systems"

....

"Windows XP Professional with SP2 or later service pack"

Hi

I already installed de Windows Installer 4.5, but nothing again.

If the WinXP SP3 is not the problem, I just don´t know what to do.

Anyone suggest something more?

Thank´s!

What antivirus do you have installed on your Host? Any other 3rd party firewalls or other "security" software installed?

Download procmon. Run it and make a capture of a new install attempt. Be nice and filter out obvious non-relevant processes.

Hi,

Try installing after verifying the following steps

1. Disable firewall
2. Login as administrator with valid password and not blank password
3. C:\ drive set folder options to show all hidden folders

The above changes will not make great difference, but may work...

Thanks,
Krissh

Scissor

I don't have firewall, and the Win Firewall is disabled. My antivirus is the Symantec Corporate 10.1. But I already tried to install disabling it too.

Thanks!
