Problems after upgrading to 2.0.3 posted: Apr 3, 2009 2:55 PM

Hi folks,

This morning I upgraded from 2.0.2 to 2.0.3, right at the moment when Vista asked me to change my password. I completely forgot to change this setting when I made Vista automatically log me in. So I simply changed my password to a new one but that's when I hit a strange error. It keeps saying "The network address is invalid" after I changed my password. I'm not sure if it's part of the login procedure, or part of the password changing procedure. I have tried all three types of networking options for the VM, as well as disconnecting the virtual network. All of them came to the same result. I don't know how I can try logging in as another user, eg. Administrator, since Vista is set up to log in automatically.

Here's what I have in my setup:

Leopard 10.5.6
Upgrading from Fusion 2.0.2 to 2.0.3 (156731)
Guest OS = Vista Ultimate 32bit
Tried Bridged/NAT/Host networking

I'm not entirely sure if this is caused by the upgrade or something else. Any ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,
Dany.

Hi guys.

Same here... I just upgrade to 2.0.3 and my network is going down.

My VM is a Ubuntu. When I boot, the eth interface is up, and after a few minutes, it's goes down. If I do ifconfig, the interface is there, but without IP Address. I wait a few more mins, it came back, and then disapear.

I rollback to 2.0.1 and same problem occurs.

I use this VM as a gateway to connect to my business VPN, any help would be very helpful.

Thanks guys.

Have you tried any of the Windows Vista recovery procedures, such as booting in Safe Mode, or booting off the install media and choosing one of the "repair" options?

That's what I'd do. I'd then try to get Vista back to a state before, or where, VMware Tools were no longer installed. Then, I'd see if I could boot into (and log in to) Vista. If I could, at that point I would reinstall VMware Tools.

If none of that worked, I'd look into contacting VMware and purchasing either a single incident support call, or maybe one of those "5 support calls" packs. (start's at about $25 for a single call.) http://store.vmware.com/store/vmware/en_US/DisplayProductDetailsPage/ThemeID.1120800/productID.82469800

I have had a vaguely similar problem with guest networking directly after updating to Fusion 2.0.3 from 2.0.2. My setup is thus:

Host: MacOSX 10.4.11
Guest: WinXP SP3

After the 2.0.3 update, the guest failed to get a network connection via "Bridged". My Mac is in an environment where it connects to the network via WiFi, but I use an ethernet cable instead for speed and robustness (and I have never gotten the bridged connection to work over my workplace's WiFi, though at home it works fine). I have my Mac network settings configured to prefer the cable when available. Anyway, it is in this context that I had successfully run guests in VMWare prior to 2.0.3.

After network connections failed in 2.0.3, I had success getting the guest to connect if I turned off the Airport. Note, that, in theory, this should have had no effect since it should have been using the ethernet connection, but it did. The guest started to operate with the Airport off, but the host (Mac) networking then failed. After see this, I decided that there is definitely something wrong with the 2.0.3 update, and I uninstalled it and re-installed 2.0.2 (also remembering to uninstall and re-install VMWare Tools). This now seems to have put things back to the functioning I had had prior to 2.0.3.

You may find a solution somewhere in this tale. Perhaps you, too, have a double network connection, which seems to be at the heart of this problem with 2.0.3. Maybe, though, you can get functioning without resorting to 2.0.2. As I said, I was able to get the guest working in 2.0.3, though for me, it came with the unacceptable sacrifice of host network connectivity.

Ouch - I just upgraded to 2.0.3 from 2.0.2 and it appears that I lost the network adapter. I don't have a network at all. 'ipconfig /renew' reports the following error "No adapter bound to TCP/IP are enabled for DHCP". This was working fine in 2.0.2.

I is running an old Windows NT4 client (it's great that I can keep an old machine running in a VM - the real machine is almost dead)

Any ideas?

I have the following error in the Event log. Is there a known problem with the network adapter that is shipped with 2.0.3?

The AMD PCnet PermaNet Server LFT Adapter Driver service failed to start due to the following error:
A device attached to the system is not functioning.
