I just purchased OS X Leopard Server 10.5.4 and was excited to install on my 2008 black Macbook, when after a lot of trouble just trying to initialize the local (disc) install process, I was unable to get past the registration screen. It would not accept the product serial number provided with my 10-client server software. The prompt said it is a site license and requires me to input the owner and organization names as specified by
calling the AppleCare support representative!
So, I contacted Apple support and was told that OS X server will not install on portables (Macbooks) despite meeting the OS X Server hardware requirements and this not being mentioned anywhere in the documentation or support pages; at least not that I've seen yet. He said I'd get some shirts and stickers or something?! No clarification on why or what would prohibit the installation. Furthermore, why does the product registration page only indicate that I need to input specific registration info rather than tell me the installation failed, is not permissible, or just refuse to begin installation in the first place?
I'd love to hear from anyone who has experienced this or knows what is happening! Thoughts and suggestions are welcome.
