As far as I know the HOST STATE alarm is not one of the predefined alarms, I assume you have added this alarm?

If so have you used any special characters or non english language characters in the* *?

The help in the VI Client contains a lot of useful information:

Alarm Settings – Triggers
Conditions
Inventory panel object: Inventory button > any view > any object
To reach this tab: Alarms tab
Minimum required privileges: Alarms > Create Alarm
Related Topics Creating and Editing Alarms

Use the Triggers tab to add, remove, and define triggers. Triggers specify the threshold values that, when exceeded by the system, signal the alarm.
To add a trigger, click Add and specify the following options:
Choose options from the drop-down menus (double-click to view a drop-down menu):
• Trigger Type

Host alarm options: Host Processor (or CPU) Usage, Host Memory Usage, Host Network Usage, Host Disk Usage, Host State, Host Hardware Health
Virtual machine alarm options: VM Processor (or CPU) Usage, VM Memory Usage, VM Network Usage, VM Disk Usage, VM State
• Condition

Options for metric triggers (such as CPU or Memory Usage): Is Above and Is Below.
Options for state triggers (such as Host State or Host Hardware Health): Is equal to (state) and Not equal to (state).
• Warning (Yellow) state or percentage

• Alert (Red) state or percentage

Percentage options range from 0% to 100% in 10% increments, but you can type any value 0-100. For non-percentage metrics, such as Network Usage, you can type any value.
Note: Alarms for metric triggers are triggered only when the specified metric meets the trigger condition for five minutes. This prevents alarms from triggering due to transient spikes in the monitored metric.
Virtual machine state options are None, Powered Off, Powered On, or Suspended.
Host state options are None, Connected, Disconnected, or Not responding.
Host hardware options are None, Unknown, Normal (green), Warning (yellow), and Alert (red).
Alarms for state triggers trigger immediately when the specified state is reached.
Note: Colors corresponding to the exiting from and entering to states are set in the Actions tab. The default is From yellow to red.

These options depend on your ESX version and your VC version

you need ESX 3.5 and VC 2.5 you will only see this option if the ESX can monitor Health status,do you see Health Status under configuration - hardware ?if not then you will not be able to configure alarms either.

This is ready only information, The health monitoring tool collects data using Systems Management Architecture for Server Hardware (SMASH) profiles.

The only option you will have available is Refresh and reset sensors

Perhaps you are unable to select the Host hardware health status via alarms as you are attempting to configure them via the virtual center and not all of your ESX servers can provide this information.

Try connecting to the ESX server (the ESX that displays Health Status) directly via your VI client and add the alarm there.. does it show the option for the Host hardware health status now?

Please check whether there is any default predefined alarms at "VC level" (select the VC name , in the inventory & not nay host or datacenter name). I think there is a default alarm for "Host Hardware status Change" there.

If you are not able to see this option please let me know that VC/ESX versions you are using ?

Hi,

has anybody now an solution for this issue ??? - I have exacty the same problem and this has nothing to do with an new alarm definition.

All my alarms did work fine until yesterday. - Yesterday I'd installed the VC software in an additional MSCS node (we have the VC running

on an MS Cluster) and afterwards all the messages were gone.

For me it seems, that the language definition in den VC had changed but I'm not able to find the point, where this is defined ...

Any ideas ???

Thanx in advance for any reaction.

Rgds.
