Use the Triggers tab to add, remove, and define triggers. Triggers specify the threshold values that, when exceeded by the system, signal the alarm.
To add a trigger, click Add and specify the following options:
Choose options from the drop-down menus (double-click to view a drop-down menu):
• Trigger Type
Host alarm options: Host Processor (or CPU) Usage, Host Memory Usage, Host Network Usage, Host Disk Usage, Host State, Host Hardware Health
Virtual machine alarm options: VM Processor (or CPU) Usage, VM Memory Usage, VM Network Usage, VM Disk Usage, VM State
• Condition
Options for metric triggers (such as CPU or Memory Usage): Is Above and Is Below.
Options for state triggers (such as Host State or Host Hardware Health): Is equal to (state) and Not equal to (state).
• Warning (Yellow) state or percentage
• Alert (Red) state or percentage
Percentage options range from 0% to 100% in 10% increments, but you can type any value 0-100. For non-percentage metrics, such as Network Usage, you can type any value.
Note: Alarms for metric triggers are triggered only when the specified metric meets the trigger condition for five minutes. This prevents alarms from triggering due to transient spikes in the monitored metric.
Virtual machine state options are None, Powered Off, Powered On, or Suspended.
Host state options are None, Connected, Disconnected, or Not responding.
Host hardware options are None, Unknown, Normal (green), Warning (yellow), and Alert (red).
Alarms for state triggers trigger immediately when the specified state is reached.
Note: Colors corresponding to the exiting from and entering to states are set in the Actions tab. The default is From yellow to red.
