So, we all know that the SC port (or managment, or cos ports) is the device that serves up the VM console views (The "Open Console" function). With LM we are able to view all consoles in a single configuration on one page and more than one person can be viewing a given workspace at one time.

What can I do to improve performance of the VM console viewing sessions? (100+ VM console sessions?)

How much overhead does VM console viewing put on the host itself?

What's the maximum number of these sessions a given host can handle? (Is 200 per host going to be too much?)

Will, NIC teaming help?

Will, a second console port group help?

A single VM will only support 10 Remote Console connections.

How much overhead does this put on the host?

How do we sustain performance accross the board?

FYI . We purposly exceded the 10 connections to a specific workspace. On connection number 13 we could still see the console of the VM and upon login to the VM and the VM powered off. We did this 3 more times with the same results. Every login caused the VM to hard poweroff.

Not much.

How much overhead does VM console viewing put on the host itself?

A bit (<10%), but not enough to cause performance issues that are significant.


What's the maximum number of these sessions a given host can handle? (Is 200 per host going to be too much?)

We stopped testing after 50... There was an increased load on the host but not enough to cause us to worry.


Will, NIC teaming help?

Will, a second console port group help?

Nope, and nope. Sorry, I did not find any performance gain from either teaming/EtherChannel, or a second SC.

It's just not a large enough over head to worry about.
