So, we've been using Workstation 6 for quite some time now and are considering the upgrade to 6.5. We have strange problems...
First - what DOES work: All of the "real" virtual machines work just fine in 6.5. These all have two vmdks each - one for "boot/os" and one for "data." These can be started within 6.5 workstation and work as expected.
What FAILS - mounting the vmdk files on the host. I understand this can only be done when the VM is not in use. We even have separate vmdk files that are not used by any VM at all - just a VMDK that we mount on the host and essentially treat it as a writeable ISO type thing. These do NOT mount any longer in 6.5.
Further, these "non vm related" vmdk disks wont attach to a vm either. Meaning, we dont usually mount them within a vm as another drive, but we could have, and have done it on occasion - it "works" under 6.0. In 6.5 they mount, the VM says "new drive detected" but then the disk is listed as dynamic and unavailable. No options are available in disk manager.
Can anyone help with this? Is this a known problem that I've failed to anticipate?
Thanks,
Travis
