Hi,

I have used mondoarchive to create a rescueimage of a HP DL380 with a smart array (RAID5), running linux using the cciss driver. I have been trying (unsuccessfully) to restore the rescue image to a new VM running on VMware Server 1. The problem I have is that VMware doesnt appear to emulate the cciss driver I need for the image to be able to work. (the physical server I am restoring to doesnt have a smart array card in it, just /dev/sda, but that shouldnt matter anyway to VMware??). To make things more complex the rescue image also contains LVM data.

Can anyone point me in the right direction of what I should do next. I thought I would be able to create a VM and restore the rescue image regardless of what was going on 'underneath' the OS.

Any pointers gratefully received.

Hello and welcome to the VMware Community for Server 1.

You thought..., sorry ;-)

This is a virtual world, the only real piece (in parts) that can be seen is the CPU. All other devices will be virtual.

Perhaps you tell us, what the purpose of this installation is? Test for Restore?
