For years now VMware has invested resources in understanding and improving virtual desktop performance. This includes VMware View as well as the virtualization of Citrix XenApp. A recent VROOM! blog posting stirred up a bunch of discussion on the topic so I wanted to open discussions in a few community forums. Here they are:

- This discussion. What are your thoughts on VMware's ability to virtualize desktops? What work have you done to benchmark your own deployments? What type of performance projects would you like us to pursue in the future?
- Standardization of Virtual Desktop Benchmarking. How can the industry standardize on a desktop workload? What's important to that workload and its execution?
- Jeff Buell's blog on the recent VROOM! article. What was good and bad about this existing comparison? How does it compare to other published desktop benchmarks? Where do you think that this experiment can be improved upon for future work?
