The VMWare tools version 7.8.4-126130 fails on installing in Debian 'Lenny'. It fails on building the vsock module. Also automatic cursor grab does not work. However the automatic cursor grab does work if upgrading from etch to lenny and then reinstalling the VMWare tools. However VSOCK still fails.

A short term fix for this is to use the open-vm-tools package. Sadly, the build of open-vm-tools in the Ubuntu repository is rather old (August 2008). However, you can grab it in source form from SourceForge at:

http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=204462&package_id=244023

There are install instructions inside the tarball.
