Problems install View Manager Agent posted: Dec 29, 2008 7:08 AM

If I leave the USB Redirection selected and try to install the View Manager agent I get an error: 28030 that the USB driver cannot be installed and the installation backs out.

If I turn off the USB redirction, I get an "error 25028" and the installation seems to complete fine.

I have tried this on Windows XP and Vista. I have tried un-installed the VDM client first, but this did not seem to help.

Any ideas on how to resolve this?

I have the same problem on one of my PCs (1 of only 2, so 50%). However, when I deselected USB, the installation completed without error. However, re-running the installation and trying to add the USB device continues to result in the 28030 error. I even found the .cab file in the Temp folder, manually extracted the USB drivers and tried a manual installation. This also fails. This is unfortunate, since one of our key drivers is the View Client's stated ability to allow VOIP (bi-directional audio) which is not possible in a standard RDP session.

Any ideas or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I am also having this issue on one of my user's computers. Does anyone have any advice? The USB redirection driver is a requirement for us to prove the software for our environment. If not, my CIO may not buy-in.

I too had this same problem. After having a go at it on my own I contacted my rep and I was notified that there was a bug with "unmanaged" PC's, meaning anything not a VM. The fix did not make it to the initial release of View 3.0, but all you have to do is add some text to the computer description field on the PC and run the install. Once the install is complete you can remove the description if you would like.

I found that the user has other issues on their laptop. They failed to install a USB printer and, upon further checking, they had nothing showing up in Device Manager. When I went through the normal troubleshooting steps in that direction, I noticed that the Plug and Play service was not listed in Services. Since it was an IT user, I told them it was reimage time as I don't have the time to repair Windows.

Thanks for your help folks.

I hit upon a simple solution to the View Agent install error #28030. Specifically, I used local admin account to launch the installer, which worked. Windows XP SP2 - added to domain.

This action resolved two issues I have been encountered when installing View Agent:

1) ThinPrint Install Error: "You do not have permission to modify the settings for this printer..."

2) USB Hub and USB Device drivers: "Error 28030. The Installer failed to install the USB driver."

Frankly, I do not know specifically which policy is keeping me from installing the drivers when I log in as a domain user/administrator. I strongly suspected the local policy "load and unload device driver" - particularly because this was disabled whenever I was logged in as a domain user. This included Domain Admin user.

Incidentally, I tried to push down these rights from within AD. (Domain controller: Domain Security Policy | + Local Policies | User Rights Assignment | Load and Unload Device Drivers).

I then used GPUDPDATE.EXE /FORCE, and although the local policy changed, the install still failed for both print & USB.

The agent services & devices seem healthy when I log in as a domain user. So, I was able to move forward. Incidentally, this only led me to my next challenge... when I add desktop to an individual pool, the machine is not fully accessible. It's likely that my problem is unrelated to the view agent install workaround. I add this for completeness, only.

For enquiring minds, my situation is that the individual desktop is created in view manager, however, under desktop sources, status is "waiting for agent." This happens with more than one guest OS. As I said, I think this is unrelated to USB Driver Installation difficulties.
