I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, so point me in the correct direction if this is not the place to ask this question, please:

When I used to use Windows (2000 & XP) I used CCleaner and/or
EZCleaner to remove extra/temporary and unnecessary files which manage
to remain behind & take up residence on most computers. Both
programs work very well in WinXP and do clean up one's machine without
removing anything necessary,if you set up the options correctly.

I
installed CCleaner & EZCleaner on my XP portion of my VmWare but
when I ran either of them, there were a gazillion files which showed
they needed to be removed. There were so many....I was afraid to do
anything. Does anyone know if using one of these cleaners would remove
some necessary files from VmWare etc...

thx for any advice...

I use CCleaner every now and then as well. I haven't tried running it on a box that had VMware server/workstation installed so I can't tell you for a fact. I would be cautious about removing files that belong to VMware though as CCleaner might not be designed for computers with VMware installed on it.

Might be a better practice to install the OS, run ccleaner then install your vmware apps onto it to be safe.

Which product are you using? Workstation? VM server? Virtual Infrastructure Client?

Some file extensions would be: .vmx, .vmxf, .vmdk, .nvram, .vmsd

Wait... Fusion or VMware Server 2.0? If you're running Fusion then you have a Mac running a Windows VM and then running CClearner inside that windows VM? Am I getting that correctly?

Its safe to say don't delete anything with the vm in the extention. I can take a look here maybe today or tomorrow build out a fresh windows box, install server/workstation, make a few VMs and see what CCleaner picks up. Have never actually ran CCleaner on a box with vmware software on it before.
