I read a lot about tricks and such for a DC as a VM running ESX Server. For ESXi embedded, is all of this not necessary? It's a fresh install to a new VM of Server 2003 R2, F&P and DC roles. What needs to be done in VM tools, in advanced config, the OS, etc? We have other DCs, so this will be the only virtual DC. Also, it will house no FSMO roles.

I have searched and searched, and it's a lot of vague info, and I think some of it has changed since the posts were made. Running ESXi 3.5, u2 for what it's worth.

It isn't - at the heart of ESX and ESXi is the same virtualization platform so the so the same rules would apply -
