Hi workstation fans
I've installed the new workstation 6.5 - 118166.
The host systems run on vista ultimate 64bit sp1, intel quadcore and nvidia 8800 gts (b-driver 177.92).
When i switched to unity-mode the console was minimized and i see the "unity-guest-button" by the start button on the host desktop.
Mow, i started - example - the paint programm, it was not shown on the host-desktop.
After unity off, i see the paint program in the console...?
regards
Roland
Did you start the application in the virtual machine guest OS before you go into unity mode?
Hi, i've tested twice:
start the appl before and switch to unity
switch to unity and start the appl over "unity-button -> progrm - appl"
The host is Windows Vista Ultimate 64bit, what is the guest OS?
Was this VM created with the released version of WS 6.5?
Are the tools the released version in the guest OS?
Host: Windows Vista Ultimate 64bit SP1 with Intel Quadcore and Nvidia 8800 GTS
Guest-OS: Windows XP SP2 with new installed VMTools
The VM was created with 6.0 and updated with the Version-Wizard.
I've rebooted all OS - no Appl-Unity
Hi rolsch_vm, could you reproduce the problem, then reply to this post and attach your UI log? The log should give us an idea of what's going wrong. Thanks!
Just chirping in to report I have same problem on very similar hardware.
Same Problem here. I tried different ways of starting a program in the vm and use different settings for the vm.
I see the menubar but the appliaction are only displayed in the console. Hardware is a Core2 Du The host is a Windows Vista Ulitimate x64 with SP1 and the Guest is a Windows XP with SP3or SP2 (i tried both). My Hardware is a Core 2 Duo E6700 and a Geforce 7300 as graphics adapter.
I tested the same guest on my Laptop with the new version of VMware Workstation, which is running Windows Business 32Bit (not the x64 edition) and here it is working fine. The Laptophardware is a Intel T8100 and as graphics adapter I used the onboard GMA965 or whatever it is called.
Maybe there is a problem with the x64 Version of Vista?
I am not sure if this is important, but the help/about window identifies my OS as "Microsoft Windows Server 'Longhorn' Ultimate x64 6.0.6001, Service Pack 1".
Thanks for your help,
Thorben
Hmm,
vista firewall or local network problem?
- the full log is in the attachment...

It seems everybody seeing this has some approximation of this hardware combo.
Should we be looking for Nvidia upgrades? Or is this a 64bit Vista problem?
For anyone having an issue with Unity, please post the UI log file
The "Help" -"About" menu option will tell you the location/name of your UI log file
Post the UI log file from when you reproduce the issue
It's also helpful - especially when you have a problem regarding unity windows not appearing, or not drawing properly - to add this line to the .vmx file before starting the VM:
pref.unity.verboseLogging = "TRUE"
This must be either a quad core issue or an Nvidia issue. I'm having the same problem with a Ultimate 64 bit host with quad core and Geforce 8800 GTX. I have a WinXP guest that has the same issue as the other posters in that with unity mode I can't see the windows. However, if I move the guest to a Vista 64 bit Business dual core laptop (Thinkpad TP400), the same VM works fine in unity mode. Therefore it's not the guest that has the issue.

Thanks for uploading the log! Were there any apps running in the guest when you went into unity? The log doesn't indicate that the host created any unity windows.
Yes, there were several apps running, including Firefox and Outlook.

No,
new booted guest-os (Windwos-XP SP-1), switched to unitiy, and started in the guest-os the paint-program over the "unity-guest-button".
I see some errors in the log from the network - use unity network connection?
The guest-os have working internet acccess over NAT.
Hi,
i've updated the nvida drivers to 178.13 - no unity
> I see some errors in the log from the network - use unity network connection?
Does that imply that host-only network must be running, or is this yet another network connection that is needed? Are any special settings needed in the Guest?
