VMWare Infrastructure Client could not establish the initial connection with server "xxxx". Details: A connection failure occurred.

Hi,

This morning I tried to connect using the VI Client and received the above message. I logged onto the Virtual Center Server and tried running the client from there and still the above resulted.

I have rebooted the server several times, uninstalled the MSDE instance, and uninstalled Virtual Center and the client and reinstalled them all again. Still I get the above.

Only thing I can see that has changed is a Windows Server Security update that caused a reboot at 0300 this morning. I have also uninstalled this update and tried again.

The setup we have is a 14 blade enclosure running ESX 3.0.2 and a separate set of 2 hosts running 3.5.0 update 1. The virtual center server (2.5) is a separate physical server running Windows Server 2003 with SP2. We are using MSDE 2005 as the Database.

After installing VirtualCenter on my desk PC (XP Pro SP3) I was able to add hosts and view the virtual machines. Ironically I was using the license server on the original server to license this.

Any help would be greatfully received.

Thanks,

Dan

Issues with the SQL database seemed to cause this as it is now resolved.
