OS X 10.4.11

VMware Fusion 2.0RC1

Hardware Profiler info attached at bottom (ATI X1600)

I uninstalled VMware Tools via Add/Remove, rebooted, reinstalled VMware Tools, rebooted, ran dxdiag and it finished all the Direct3D tests without crashing this time (reported they all passed), but when I start TF2 it goes past the Source splash screen, then just shows blackness. I can here the title screen music, and moving the mouse around makes the mouse-over sounds for the menus, but I can't see anything. The Valve overlay screen is visible and functional if I shift + tab.

Any ideas?

10.4.11 has numerous bugs in the 3D drivers and Apple is not planning on fixing them; you should use 10.5 if you want 3D acceleration.

Also, if you created this virtual machine in a previous version of Fusion, have you upgraded the virtual hardware?

Ahh, that's kind of what I figured so I checked the release notes, but I didn't see anything specifically saying 10.5 was required.

10.5 isn't strictly required for 3D acceleration, but you'll probably have a better experience with it (just as you'll probably have a better experience with the latest patch of a game, or the latest OS X update, or more RAM or a faster CPU).
