The problem of Fusion requiring the Admin login and password to start up a bootcamp partition eliminates it's usefulness for many professional applications. I run a university computer lab and could never give out admin rights to students. I also need to run boot camp because of few time students do need windows often they need it at full speed. I am very disappointed that the 2.0 version of this product doesn't address this problem.

If any one knows anything about this problem or has any news please post.

I'm shooting in the dark here, because I don't work for VMWare or anything, but it seems like having administrative access might be required. For one thing, they need to unmount the Windows volume. For another, they might need raw disk access to read/write the drive (which might only be available to admins).

There could be a number of other reasons, but it seems highly likely that this is because of the things they need to do to get at the raw disk.

Anybody who runs a Boot Camp VM has, from within the VM, full access to the Windows partition on the physical disk. So they can for example rewrite the bootloader of the physical disk to take full control of the host next time it is rebooted. So allowing somebody to run a Boot Camp VM is equivalent to allowing them to elevate their privileges to that of a host admin.

So Fusion is faced with 2 choices when somebody wants to run a Boot Camp VM:
1) Silently allow it. This is insecure as explained above.
2) Prompt for a host admin password. This is secure: if the user is already a host admin, they don't need the help of a Boot Camp VM to elevate their privileges to host admin.

We chose the secure way. So did all our competitors.
