Printer Is Semi-Present

I am running VMware Workstation 6.0 on 64-bit Ubuntu 8.04. In VMware, I have a Windows XP virtual machine. I made the VM using VMware Converter. The original Windows installation, from which I made the virtual machine, was able to print to my printer: I had installed the software and the drivers in that original installation.

My printer is a Canon MF5770 multifunction. I ran across an HCL that tells me this printer is not at all Linux-compatible. However, some of VMware's literature has told me, in essence, that if you have a Windows-compatible printer, you should be able to print to it from a Windows VM.

In my Windows VM, I open a PDF using Foxit Reader. I tell Foxit to print that PDF. Foxit recognizes the Canon printer as an option. I tell it to print. Nothing happens.

I would hate to give up this printer. I haven't had it long. It was fairly expensive. It has worked well for me.
