Well, I just went to my Firefox's local user profile, found extensions directory and VM's plugin.

C:\Documents and Settings\kamil\Dane aplikacji\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\2qr71loy.default\extensions\VMwareVMRC@vmware.com)

Edited 'install.rdf' file. Found a section:

<Description>

<em:id>{ec8030f7-c20a-464f-9b0e-13a3a9e97384}</em:id>
<em:minVersion>1.0</em:minVersion>
<em:maxVersion>3.0.0.*</em:maxVersion>

</Description>

</em:targetApplication>

And just changed 3.0.0 to 3.0.1

And Voila, restart firefox and got VM plugin working again :)

The Firefox compatibility addon workaround works for me on Ubuntu Hardy Heron. Thanks.

I like this solution more - while the clean solution is to edit the install.rdf files yourself, I think my browser was annoying me with some kind of plugin download caching - though maybe I'm just lazy and missed something else (doubt that though).

Thanks for posting that! (English version: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/6543https://addons.mozilla.org/de/firefox/addon/6543)

If one has not yet installed the plugin it can be downloaded (when you try to open console for the first time it asks you to download it from the serverand install) you can easily find the install .xpi file, unzip it (i recommend 7zip software - free and open source), edit the file inside and then install the plugin.

Possibly there should be an option to find the installation file on your VM Ware server, and edit it there, so users wouldn't have problems

I have installed "Nightly tester tools" then "remote console" plugins as suggested, but I also had to chmod 755 all files in ~/.mozilla/firefo/myprofilerandomchars.default/extensions/VMwareVMRS@vmware.com.

(I'm using hardy 8.04.1, with firefox 3.0.1.)

755 is maybe on all files is "too much" I know, but it works...

Sorry, this did not work for me. I even checked for all the install.rdf's in the C:\Documents and Settings directory and found no others.

I do not want to add the "make compatable" Addon, is VMWare going to release a new plugin, Please?

There could be security implications depending on the environment of deployment. Changing the install.rdf file is a clean solution in that it's addressing the actual problem and not finding a work around. Don't get my disposition wrong, I did the same solution as most and just installed that force install thing. But I can totally see how that's not even a solution to many. Make sense?

This is really frustrating. I tried installing Nightly Tester, but it won't install because it is not compatible with Firefox 3.0.1! The irony is overwhelming. Any thoughts?

All,

Server 2 RC2 will be released this week and should fix the FF 3.0.1 compatibility issues.

Thanks
