I should point out that I have had no problems with any installer at any time. There is a New MSI, and If I think it is an installer problem, perhaps I should install the latest and see if that corrects the problem. I have installed Server versions 1.0.4, 1.0.5 and 1.0.6 with no problems and thay all functioned fine.

Are you aware of anyone who has installed 2.0 Beta 2 or RC1 on XP x64? Are there any software(s) required for 2.0 to run?

Did you do anything special installing on the x64 system?

• Use 'Run As' Administrator
• Use Administrator account
• Change policy
• Use Safe Mode (with/without networking)
• Turn off security SW

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I have opened a Service Request (SR) on my install problem. I strongly suggest that you also open one on your NTFS corrupted files if you have not already. As Beta testers we are allowed to open SRs. Mine has actually been responded to (just asking for more info).

Wow - Thanks! This is a great help. I had not thought to look in my application log and there are many errors there around my install attempts, including Event ID: 1008. There are also DCOM errors about not being able to start DCOM in Safe Mode, which probably explains why I can't do the install there. I have some more research to do and may try updating MSI as I noted in my previous post.

I would also suggest that you open a Service Request, reporting your problem and solution.

The hang appears not to be. I allowed the tomcat installation to continue even though the CPU and disk activity indicated nothing was happening. And, it finished after about 10 to 15 minutes! But, I have no shortcuts created except to VMware Server Home Page. There is no vmware.exe in the VMware folder of the Profiles Files (x86) even though it is 673 MB. I do have two DCOM errors during the install of Event ID:10016, for User:NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE. KB899965 has a fix for this type error and I have used it before to prevent DCOM errors for LOCAL SERVICE.

I noticed in the Release Notes that NetBIOS is used to setup shortcuts. I have disabled NetBIOS for security reasons. Is this possibly the reason I don't have any shortcuts or vmware.exe - enable it?

Is it required that I setup some part of RC1 on the Internet? Is there a description of this?

I am making progress, only very slowly.
