I have been facing a problem (Which I never faced before) while mounting local VM manually since last Monday. Before it, everything was working fine for me. This problem started from Monday. I am unable to nail down this problem. Vcbmounter is getting failed to mount any Local VM with bellow error: (Error will remain same for all the local VMs)

vcbMounter -h <IP address> -u root -p <pwd> -a ipaddr:x.x.x.x -r c:\xyz\123 -t "file" -m "nbd"

It does not seem problem with Proxy server and VCB Framework since I am able to mount iSCSI VM successfully.
It does not seem problem with ESX servers since I used all our ESX server VMs to mount manually. Also I can mount iSCSI VMs successfully which resides on those ESX only.
It does not seem problem with VMs since so far I have tried same thing with different 7 Local VMs. For all Vcbmounter is getting failed to mount with same error. So we can’t say it is VM specific problem.

Could you please share your ideas to rectify this problem?

I use ESX 3.5 (no updates installed yet) and VCB 1.1

I was having a similar problem because the "c:\xyz" location already existed. Have you tried "c:\abc" for the location. Hope this helps.

Have you tried to restart mount service? If iSCSI stuff is working, is it only the nbd that isn't working?

Have you tried reinstalling VCB?
I know that doesn't sound good and I don't think we should ever have
to. But just to rule it out I would give it a try.

Also, could it be possible that your root passwd has changed? And do you have more to your scirpt?
vcbMounter -h <IP address> -u root -p <pwd> -a ipaddr:x.x.x.x -r c:\xyz\123 -t "file" -m "nbd"

Check there are no existing snapshots on the Virtual Machine, you should not have any manually created ones, but also sometimes VCB can fail and leave a snapshot remnant that needs to be removed.

This can be done from the Snapshot Manager in the VC GUI

VCBMOUNTER will work with snapshots in place but it is not recommended and, as the uncommited data builds the issue gets worse !!

but i found out why it doesn't work it was compatibility of VCB with ESX3.0 :)
