Are you just starting out?

Have you been running VMWare for a while?

What version are you running?

Did you attend any training?

How extensive is your VMWare infrastructure on campus?

Are you just starting out?

We have been using Vmware for three years now.

Have you been running VMWare for a while?

Three years. The first year consisted of testing/using Workstation and we are now utilizing ESX greatly and not using Workstation any more except for some little stuff.

What version are you running?

ESX 3.5...thanks for reminding me I need to do some updates :)

Did you attend any training?

Yes, I have been to both of the VCP requisite classes. It was good to sit with an instructor and classmates who could answer my questions or add ideas for things to try.

The majority of our Windows 2003 servers are virtual machines. We currently have two IBM X3950 servers as our hosts, with about 12-15 vms per host. I also manage an ESX host in our Dominican Republic, Jacksonville, and Europe locations remotely.

Unfortunately we do not have the funding to go crazy with ESX and that prevents me from doing a lot of the more advanced stuff that others do. I am very confident with ESX and vmware in a day to day basis but I am scared to take the VCP test because the practice test asks questions that I've never had to deal with before.

EDIT: Wow I'm an idiot! I didn't realize this thread was posted in the Higher Ed forums...lol just ignore my post!

Where are you with Virtualization?

We are going virtual. We are looking to go 80/20.

Are you just starting out?

No, we have been in the process of moving to virtualization for a few years. We started with our peoplesoft environments (not DBs) and have been extremely pleased.

Have you been running VMWare for a while?

About 2 and a half years.

What version are you running?

We started with 2.5 and are now running 3.02, 3.5 and 3.5i.

Did you attend any training?

Yes, but AFTER I passed the point of needing it. I was VCP certified @ vmworld 2008.

How extensive is your VMWare infrastructure on campus?

75 production Virtual machines, about 100 development (growing everyday, unfortunately), and 200 desktops for a remote lab, this will grow to 1000 desktops, and a few appliances.

The VI Toolkit for powershell has made my life very easy. I love it.

Thanks,
Fleeb

No, we are 2 years in and expect to be 90% virtualized within 2 years

Have you been running VMWare for a while?

Yes, in production for > 2 years and in test, prototype, pilot mode for > 1 year before that

What version are you running?

We started with 2.5 and are now running 3.5 and testing 4.0

Did you attend any training?

Yes, the installationa and configuration - VCP #20255!

How extensive is your VMWare infrastructure on campus?

11 ESX servers Dell R900's with 128Gb backed by 2 Netapp 3040 clusters (running NFS datastores) - these are geographically balanced between two campus datacenters - about 100 VMs
