Are you just starting out?
Here at Bowdoin, we have been utilizing Workstation since 2003, and ESX since 2004 in the server room.
Have you been running VMWare for a while?
We are long-time customers of VMWare and are strong advocates of virtualization on campus.
What version are you running?
Currently, we have several copies of Workstation being utilized within IT for local test/dev. We are also distributing Fusion on most of our new Macs, for users that wish to run a Windows or Linux OS on top of MacOSX. On the server front, we are running VI3.5, installed on our hosts. We may look at running 3.5i in our next host hosts, to see if there is any benefits over the installable version.
Did you attend any training?
I did attend a VMWare training course, but not until I had been using the software for several years ad decided to get my VCP certification. I learned mostly on my own, using the documentation and online knowledgebase and forums.
How extensive is your VMWare infrastructure on campus?
Bowdoin uses VMWare extensively, and we are currently supporting nearly 80% of our x86 hosts as virtual machines. Of our 160+ x86 servers, 132are VMs, running on 10 ESX hosts.
