After upgrading VMWare Workstation 6.0.2 to 6.0.3 in my laptot (ThinkPad Z61P) with Vista 32 bit installed, I lost all the keyboard functionality in the guest machine and in the host machine as well.

The only way to reset the situation was to completely uninstal the VMWare Workstation.

Any idea?

Tony

Me too... help!

I have a Dell Workstation with a Quad Core Xeon, and a Dell USB keyboard and Dell USB mouse. It is running Windows Vista Business 64-bit. Vmware workstation 6.0.2 seemed to work OK. But after upgrading to 6.0.3 the keyboard wouldn't work. I had to rdesktop into the box. It appears that the "KEYBOARD HID DEVICE" driver couldn't load due to a duplicate copy being found in memory Error #38. I was able to uninstall the VMware 6.0.3 and then I could use the host again.

Pradeep Ram of Vmware Inc. told me to run the complete uninstall from the command line by using the installer executable with the "/c" flag...

VMware-workstation-6.0.2-59824.exe /c

Then after doing that, I rebooted.

Then I installed the VMware-workstation-6.0.3-80004 and it worked fine.

I guess that the old install of VMware left some "drivers" in the registry, and the new VMware install didn't remove the old ones when it tried to install. So the OS barfed on having two drivers for the USB keyboard.

I followed the Pradeep suggestion and everything now works well.

Thanks.
