Twice in this evening in the span of 15 minutes and least one before today, I've shutdown a Windows XP SP3 VM that was in fullscreen mode and my menu bar has not returned after the shutdown. I can bring up the Library and restart the VM but the menubar is MIA. Of course now when I actively try to reproduce it, I can't. It's some combination of moving between spaces and shutting down the VM that causes it. The menu is definitely not on another space and it does NOT appear when I mouse up to the top of the screen.

If anyone sees this behavior or finds my menubar, please reply.

Thanks

/me rummages around, spots it hanging out with unpaired socks from the dryer and the spotty wireless connection.

rhind reported a similar issue in Mac menu bar bug in fullscreen mode after hiding fusion, no response or resolution.

I remember seeing a menubar issue back in mac menu bar and dock does not go away in full screen mode; if I recall correctly it was slightly different. I'm not able to look it up in the internal database at the moment, but I think we concluded it was an Apple bug.

Of course, if you can come up with specific reproduction steps, it would be helpful.

The one I was remembering is Leopard-specific, had the menulets (sound, clock, wireless, spotlight, etc.) visible but nothing else on the menu bar (including the background), is being tracked as bug 216375, and we're pretty confident it's an Apple bug.

The repro steps we have for bug 216375 are:

1. Start virtual machine
2. Go fullscreen
3. Mouse up to menubar, select VMware Fusion > Hide VMware Fusion
4. Click on Fusion Dock icon, virtual machine should unhide
5. Mouse over where menubar clock should be

I have also lost the menus from my vmware. I find this very unfortunate and I am hoping that anyone of you could have found a work around to the problem.
