I installed the SP1 update today. Before installing, an external USB hard drive (Maxtor) was no problem -- it always appeared. Now I get a warning that "the device has malfunctioned" and when I go to the Device Manager, it is listed as "Unknown Device" -- for that, the "General" panel says there are no drivers installed for this device, but when I try to update the driver in the "Driver" panel, it tells me the driver is up to date, no matter which way I go in searching for the driver.

I can see the drive on the Mac OS X side (when it is disconnected from the virtual machine) and it looks fine.

I'm not a Windows expert, so I'm not sure how to fix this. It was working before the update. Should I revert, or what?

I am having similar issues after installing Vista SP1 (Ultimate). My IOMega firewire drive, USB flash drive, and my Zune no longer load correctly. The firewire and flash drives do register in OSX 10.5.2, however.

The problem is not just with VM. After installing the SP1 on my macbook pro 15.4" running vista ultimate via bootcamp, my system seemed to be running properly for several day until I accidently reset my bluetooth mouse. I found out that I was not able to pair the mouse with the computer using bluetooth anymore. It kept complaining invalid driver and could not find the driver no matter what I tried. To my madness, insertion of any usb device would trigger driver installation and the invalid driver error. I resolved the problem by uninstalling the SP1. Everything is back to normal. I have Norton antivirus installed on my system. I am suppecting that it may be conflicting with the vista SP1. However, I did uninstall NAV first before resolving to uninstall the whole freaking SP1, and it did not help. To my dismay, there was a mini network driver showing up in the device manager with a warning question mark that would not go away. I searched the net and confirmed it was left behind by SP1, and found a window command to get rid of it. Unbelievable!!!

Yes, I suspect the problem is with the Bootcamp drivers. I had the great idea of re-installing them. Bad idea. The drivers installed ok, but on reboot, Vista rolled them back. I guess we have to wait for Apple to issue SP1-compatible Bootcamp drivers.

Make sure your VM memory is smaller than 2GB... this fixed a USB problem for me.
