In the product literature, it says that Capacity Planner gathers a system inventory. Does anybody have a system inventory report they can share with me, or can type in what it gathers?

I'm specifically looking for things such a processor type, OS, patch level, NICs, applications installed, etc. on the physical server so that we would have a traditional machine inventory along with the performance metrics that Capacity Planner gathers.

Thanks!

Here are some extracts (Attached) I have cut out of our capacity planning report. The report is huge and has loads of data however I hope this info comes in handy. The document is confidential with our company so unfortunately I can not share the entire document however if there are other specific items you would like to see I can get this over to you.

You can only get these types of reports if you have an ID/PASS for the website correct? You dont get these reports with the consolidation manager piece of VC?? (even though it uses capacity planner)

Tom,

No probs., I have attached a few more screenshots (2 more in next post as I can only attach 3 per post)
Our report does not include data regarding patch levels however it does collect OS information, how many CPU's, How old the CPU's are in one of the screenshots how much available memmory per server.

Hi Tom,

Yes, the first thing CP does when you set it up is collect a system inventory. It is a complete inventory of hardware and also applications. It should meet just about any inventory needs you may have.

Hi!

In regards Inventory Data:

I was looking informations about an issue that appears in a Capacity Planning process from my customer.

All data is collected right by the Collector, but when I see the Datawarehouse (optimize.vmware.com), all Performance data was uploaded successful, but nothing of Inventory data was uploaded successful.

Do you know why Inventory Data is not sent to Datawarehouse? I need present the reports and can not execute it because Inventory data is Empty (Performance data is ok).

Thanks and Regards!!

Patricio

Things to check.

If you select the dashboard tab and the select collection dashboard you should see graphs on what has been inventoried, if you click on the inventory uploads tab it should tell you when inventory data was last uploaded. The Inventory job is normally set to run once every 24 hours. If no data at all has been uploaded then it looks like the inventory job has never been run on the data collector.

All data is uploaded to the data warehouse as csv fikles -both performance and inventory so if only one set of data is being uploaded then it must be something to do with the job and its schedule.

When you installed the data collecotr you would have ben able to run a test inventory collection before enabling the synchronisation of updates - did you do this and did it work.

you can also try force full inventory export. it's possible that the full inventory export was unknown when it first sent to the dashboard (in case the collector got registered late)
