Using a specialty printer in Fusion (Take 2)

(See the discussion regarding "Using a specialty printer in Fusion".) :-(

After downloading and installling the latest Epson driver, I thought that took care of my printing problem. At least until I went to print, that is.

Here's how things are right now: The Epson printer is installed and set as the default in printers and faxes (looks good) and the port selected is the "Virtual USB" port.

So, I figure it should work. However, when I attempted to print out something, nothing happened. I checked the queue for the printer, and it was empty. I went through the recommended steps to see if it will print from the Command Prompt - still nothing. I then changed the printer port to each one in turn and tested it. Nothing.

So now I'm pretty much back where I started with the exception, of course, of having the correct drivers installed. I just have to find out how to get my software (and maby the machine?) to use the printer as it should. This is getting very frustrating, to say the least. I know it worked as it should under Boot Camp, so I could upgrade to Leopard.....

Any ideas, here? ?:|

Hi again,

Since no one has come up with any suggestions, I've been doing some experimenting, & I found the problem. :) Here's what I did:
I went to Start>My Computer, right-clicked and selected Properties. From there, I selected the Hardware Tab & clicked on Device Manager.
This brought up a window showing all the devices on the computer. I noticed that under the USB Controllers there was an explanation mark (!) next to
the USB Root Hub. I then right-clicked that icon (!) and saw in the window that showed up that the device driver was not working. I elected to have Windows find and install the driver.
For some reason, when I installed WinXP the driver for the USB Root Hub either did not get installed, or more likely, it was corrupted, causing a problem
with the virtual USB port, keeping the machine from "seeing" my Epson printer.
Now, with the driver working correctly, my machine "sees" my printer, allowing me to utilize it as it was designed.

By posting this solution, I hope this will help someone in the future, as I'm sure this won't, or hasn't been an isolated problem.

Thanks to all of you who read my original post and have been pondering over the problem! Now you know the solution. :) (Can I give myself the 10 points?) :) :)
