I wanted to add that I also was not able to get my SATA CD/DVD ROM recognized, it would install from it if I plugged it into one of the HDD connectors, but after the install ESX wouldn't recognize it, so I swapped it out for an IDE CD/DVD ROM and it works fine, can install with it and vm's see it as well.
