I just passed and am curious how many VCPs there are? Is the Candidate ID related to the actual number of VCPs?
AFAIK yes, i reckon about 25-30k are VCP's now...small fry in comparison to Microsoft/CCNA.
I passed the VCP exam November 22nd and got a number around 20.000 - my collegue took the exam three weeks prior to that and got a number around 19.500.
If I remember correctly, when the new VCP310 exam came out, they started the VCP ID numbers at 10,000 to differentiate the old VCPs certified on the 2.x product from the ones who were just certified on 3.x.

hi,
I passed before xmas and the vcp numbers were up to 20600 at the time. Im sure another 100 must have passed by now?!?
I think there's a big gap between around 3000 and 10000 when they changed from ESX2 to VI3 certification.
Candidate ID <> VCP#. The Candidate ID is used to correlate the testing between VMware Ed. Svcs & Pearson-Vue testing. Make sure you keep track of your Pearson-Vue login and don't create a new one or you'll have a hassle later.

I passed on 19th December 2007 and my vmware number came in on the 21xxx range if that gives you any indicator.
So what's the highest # < 10000 out there? Mine's in the 1700s
