Hey guys,

One of my users is using the client to build a vm, tries to connect their cdrom using the client and gets access denied. What is the minimum permissions needed to be able to connect a remote physical cd rom to a vm? VC 2.5, esx 3.0, I believe they currently have virtual machine power user role on the object.

VM User should be fine. Not Power user, just user.

Once you make a change, how quickly or what needs to happen for the new permissions to take effect? Do they have to log out and back into the clinet for that to happen or is it instantaneous?

Hey Guys,

I think there is something else going on here Probably not permissions or roles, maybe a service needs restarting? The user gets the following error:

Exception of type Vmomi.fault.no permission' was thrown

Ideas?

Hey guys,

I have given one of my users Administrator role, and they still can't connect their laptop cdrom to a vm so that they can do the initial installation. We have upgraded VC to 2.5, and left the hosts at 3.02. They were able to perform this task a couple weeks ago, but now they can't. It seems to me that maybe this mismatch between VC and hosts could be causing the problem.

Any ideas? I have to believe that an Administrator should be able to connect a cd rom through the vi client. I can.

Hey all,

An update: I have worked with VMware support and they tell me that there is a known bug that is responsible here. VC 2.5 has it, no ETA on a fix. Consider before upgrading.
