The GStreamer test popped right up with my mug after running ./isight_install.sh. iSight in Linux - definitely possible. Linux kernel:

I just dowloaded the tar.gz file with the iSight driver. It looks like that before launching the "make", I'll need a small patch to the source code. The idProduct code for the "Buitl-in iSight - with firmware loaded" is listed as 0x8501. Apparently my 17in Macbook Pro has a idProduct code of 0x8502 (found usaing lsusb in RHLE), which also has the firmware pre-loaded. Maybe someone can tell the guy that produced the original patch in 2006 that new iSight code are in place.

Step one worked great. I got the ISO files, I use the patch and they installed in Ubuntu 7.10 perfectly.

Next I'll try to compile and install the Sight driver.

One ting I noted whn running Ubuntu. EVERYTHING seems to wok, EXCEPT for sound recording and any kind of sound input.

I tried Preferences - Sound and all selections under Sound Capture fail with "failed to construct test pipeline for gcongaudiosrc !audioconvert ! audioresample ! gconfaudiosink ! profle = chat.

Also when I use the Sound Recorder nothing ever gets recorded.

Interestingly sound recording and sound input works perfectly with Red Hat EL.

Is this a known problem with Ubuntu 7.10 and VMware?

Step 2 went partially OK. I compiled and installed the iSight driver for the one built-in into the 17in Mac Book Pro. The driver built correctly and it works for abot 10-20 seconds in Ekiga, then the picture stops changing. A ny ideas?

I installed Skype 2.X for Linux beta. The iSight camera is recognized, but the screen stays black. This is a currently known bug with most USB cameras in Skype under Ubuntu, and I will have to wait for a Skype update to see if the driver works with it.
