Hi all,

I've installed Virtual Center 2.5, with Update Manager on the same server. Virtual Center has it's own database, Update manager also.

The databases are located on a other server. When I start the VI client, with the update manager plugin enabled, I get the error message which can be seen in the file I've included.

The databases are up&running, system DSN is correct. Clues anybody?

...we are having exaclty the same problem as well - did a couple of reinstall's, moved the databases from a remote to the local server, installed each component manually......and so on - no changes at all.

Would be great if somebody you give some advise here....

I changed the Logon account for the service "VMware Update Manager service" to the AD account (from local system account) which has access to my remote sql 2005 database for Virtual Center. This corrected the problem.

thx - but this would mean that we need a "Windows Authentication" on the SQL Server....... and this is what we don't won't. Because in this case we would endup with AD Accounts for every application which has a SQL DB.

So if I get your solution the the issue right - the Update Manager is not able you use the entered SQL account for authentication. ...I guess this is a bug; not a feature.......

We have on the same server the virtual center server running with access to the same SQL Server. So I figured it can't be an issue with the local system account; because it work for the "Virtual Center Server" to connect to the DB.

I am having the same issue. I am using SQL authentication for the ODBC DSN but I tried to use a domain account for the service account but it made no difference. Anyone else have any luck with this problem?

In typical WIndows application fashion, uninstalling and reinstalling update manager on the VC server resolved the issue for me.

From this post, I can tell you are not a DBA. You need to talk to a SQL DBA about making a mixed mode login. The way you describe how you connect to the database, is incorrect. That's not how it works at all.

Get a qualified SQL database admin to help you, and they can explain how it will work.

I am also having this issue.

I am using a single DB for both VC & UM.

VC works like a charm, but UM, while it installs without giving an error, gives me the same error messgae when I try to enable the plugin in VC. I have tried unsintall/reinstall several times with no luck.

I am using the same SQL account for both. So why would it work for VC and not for UM?

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Uninstall - reinstall but make sure to change the proxy settings to the EXACT proxy

By default, our installation entered something like https=ourproxy;8080. Not sure where the Update Manager got these entry from...

We've just deleted every entry, type "ourproxy" and the port number 8080. It starts working at that point

Sorry for my poor english!

For us it was the number of max database connections in vci-integrity.xml - 80 by default:

<database>
<initialConnections>80</initialConnections>
<maxConnections>80</maxConnections>
</database>

It was busting the number of max connections specified in the Oracle init file.
With a lower setting we don't have this problem anymore.
