I recently purchased Workstation 6 for linux and I have a painful issue when I fullscreen the VM and then jump out of it again. The problem is, that I then do not have use of my control key.
I am not sure what this is related to. Perhaps this is a VMplayer bug as it seems a lot like vmplayer than the older style of how the VM was run.
This is quite a serious issue as I need the control key to work. Otherwise I have to end up rebooting the machine! I think the SHIFT key is also affected.
Kind regards,
which O/S is the affected VM running ?
linux host, running linux VMs
ok,
do you use any special keyboard (bluetooth, wireless,...) or is a standard qwerty /... keyboard ?
I have standard hardware. Thinkpad X40. No external inputs or outputs for that matter. ![]()
Is it true you are using VMplayer now for "playback"? It certainly looks like it. I wonder if I can somehow switch back to the "old Workstation player".
Let me know how I can provide you the information you need to resolve this major issue for me.
Kind regards,

huh ? don't understand the question
( I don't work for vmware if the "you" refers to vmware )
I don't understand the above reply either, but I can confirm the original report. In my case, I'm running VMWare Workstation 6.0.1 (build 55017) on Ubuntu Gutsy AMD64 with a Windows 98 guest. When I fullscreen VMware, then un-fullscreen it, I lose my control and shift keys (maybe alt, too - not sure). I have to restart X to get them back.

I think I found the solution by searching around the forum.
setxkbmap -rules xorg -layout "gb"
