Clean install of Beta2 on a Windows 2003 Server Enterprise server. When I go to the Add Existing Virtual Machine page, there is no Browse option. Also, the Contents column shows an icon that keeps spinning as if it were looking for something. Its been going for about 30 minutes now.

How do you browse for existing VMs?

VMware
Well, that dialog is the browse dialog, though it appears to have hung while waiting for the directory data under the standard datastore. Please refresh and try to add the vm again, we will look into improving this.

They have made it a bit like ESX. From the main page under "Commands", look for "Add Datastore". Here you "map" your pathes (or path) to where your existing VMs are located. Once you have mapped the location of your VMs, you then go back and "Add VM to Inventory".

Not very obvious is it?

Well, when I upgraded from 1.0.4 to 2.0b1 I didn't have to configure the datastore. That came over automatically. But then again, I did it on Linux...

Thanks Michael, that was it!!! The Datastore had not been defined. Pointed it to the parent folder of my VMWare VMs and the browse works fine now.

Note to VMWare - it would be nice to get some kind of warning if you go to browse and no datastore has been defined. In my case, it just hung looking for it.

Well, no, you did have to configure the first datastore. The installer asked you where you want to place your Virtual machines. That configured the first datastores location. If you had VM's in other folders, you would have had to configured other datastores to find them.

Thanks SMB, and you may be right, but I don't remember seeing that option. But, if I blew by it, that may explain why the screenshot I posted above may contain only the "standard" store, which must be empty (i.e. not pointing anywhere).

I'll be installing B2 on another machine, so I'll pay closer attention looking for the store issue.

Thanks!!!

Just to "chime in", I was not prompted to configure my datastore during the installation either or I just missed it too.
