I am really happy to annouce that VMware Fusion 1.1 is now available for download. VMware Fusion 1.1 has over 25 new and improved features since VMware Fusion 1.0 including support for Mac OS X Leopard, Microsoft Vista in Boot Camp virtual machines, experimental support for DirectX 9.0 (without shaders) 3D graphics, localized French, German, and Japanese versions, and more.

There were only a handful of critical changes between 1.1 RC and 1.1 final release including:

  1. A fix for the kernal panic found in vmioplug on Mac OS X Leopard
  2. 2D graphics regression found with .NET applications resolved
  3. Mac Pro sound output on Mac OS Leopard now works as expected
  4. Exclude VMware Fusion VMs from Time Machine due to Time Machine hang when backing up live virtual machines
  5. Support for GMA 3100 Intel Graphics Accelerators (in new MacBook)
  6. Fixed networking issues after doing a Leopard Upgrades or using the Apple Migration Assistant once you restart the destination Mac

Download the free VMware Fusion 1.1 upgrade now!

And one more thing....

a lot of people have asked for an easier way to move from Parallel Desktop for Mac to VMware Fusion to take advantage of the reliablity and performance of VMware Fusion without having to start from scratch. I am pleased to announce a beta release of VMware Importer for VMware Fusion. VMware Importer for VMware Fusion imports Parallels Desktop for Mac 2.5 and 3.0 virtual machines that are Windows 2000 or later.

Click here for more details on VMware Importer Beta.

We hope you enjoy VMware Fusion 1.1 and the VMware Importer Beta.

Best,

Pat

Thanks to everyone who made this happen! I know I'm proud of the team, and VMware Fusion 1.1 kicks some serious butt.

Definitely check out the Importer beta to bring in those Parallels VMs! We need to hear your feedback to make it the best product possible.

The Importer beta is great news this will help a lot of your customers. Does it work with Microsoft VHDs too (read: VirtualPC users)? I'm off to find out!

For everyone questioning if VMware listens to its customers: here's my request for Importer very early in the forums: VM Importer for OS X?

Dreams can come true - great work team!

And a download that we can get hold of without having to re-enter all our details. Hoorah!!!

This is very good timing, I didn't even consider that perhaps the GMA3100 graphics on the Macbook that's turning up later in the week might not have been supported.

Thanks guys (n gals?) :)

Hi,

Ever since trying the 1.1 betas (and even 1.1 final), my sound hasn't been working. This is with Windows XP on a MacBook Pro Core Duo with Leopard. I'm going to try deleting the sound device and seeing what happens.

Richard,

VMware Importer for VMware Fusion currently only supports Parallels Desktop for Mac 2.5 and 3.0 virtual machines that are Windows 2000 or later. We will definitely consider Virtual PC for Mac in a future release based on customer demand.

Best,

Pat

Well I'm excited to go home and do my install on Leopard. It'll probably be a bit more speedy. I've noticed that Leopard is much faster on my Mac Mini than Tiger, so I cant wait. The Unity integration seems to be getting better. I hope to eventually not use Bootcamp since Leopard has spaces. I also hope that VMware might perhaps implement a better startup and shutdown functionality and select a default space to startup in. hint hint, nudge nudge :)

Anyway, keep up the great work guys! I'm shocked you're all working weekends to get the product out the door. I appreciate the dedication and great work and support!
