Thank you **SO** much, i was about to write an angry email to VMWare complaining that Fusion only provided the same functionality as the Free Player (because it only provided the three default VMNets).

Turns out it is a "Hidden" feature.

I've specifically registered a forum account here just to thank you DaveP for your immensely helpful work! Your scripts work like a charm and the accompanying PDF was very helpful in getting up and running.

@vmware: you should put this guy on your payroll and include the scripts with vmware Fusion from now on!

I applaud you for your work ! It has saved some simulation situations i've been running into a number of times.

But i still simply cannot understand why VMWare did not make a graphical tool for doing this ? On Windows the same thing is extremely easy !

Keep up the good work !

Dave, these scripts are awesome. Thank you very much. I'm still amazed at how VMware hasn't included any of this....

I do have one question. How do I make a "NAT"ed non-bridged vmnet without a DHCP server?

Thanks!

I ended up modifying tokamak-boot.s

I added:

f ; then

It blows my mind thast Vmware hasn't made the Vnet cofiguration easier.

Dave, your scripts are wonderful. I have a problem with a custom VM guest reserving 172.20.208.1 & 172.20.107.1 for system tools. Is there any way to keep the host from taking the first number in the range? I tried specified 172.20.208.99 in the tokamak.sh -- modify, but it keeps taking XXX.XXX.XXX.1 for the host. I also tried a subnet of 255.255.254.0 to try range 172.20.106.1-172.20.107.254, but this does not come up running.
Any help is really appreciated.

Hi Dave,

Great Job. Thanks.

The only thing is that I installed scripts on VMWare Fusion Version 2.0rc1 (113392) and it seems it doesn't work. It says error on line 20 in dhcpd.conf for vmnet1 and vmnet8...

Any hope to have this fixed?

Best Regards,
Sofiane

I found a work around for assigning the default Host address which works with the VM that demands the .1 IPs. After running your scripts to setup the desired networks, I then use ifconfig to bring down the desired vmnet and then bring it back up with "ifconfig <vmnet_id> <new IP> 255.255.255.0 up" I used this to reassign the address to use xxx.xxx.xxx.20, instead of 1 and this works now. Of course, if I rerun the tokamak scripts, I have to run this again, but it is a working solution.
Thanks again for you scripts.
